I did this painting last year, but I never shared it because I didn't feel it was a fitting tribute. How wrong I was! I've read a fair amount on him and know that he had a great sense of humor and a memorable laugh. Our American icons are often entombed in our collective memories that they become something greater than human. But MLK was an incredible leader who was also just a person trying to figure it out. I'm looking for who this human being was as I'm staring at him. And I think that's what he's looking for as he stares back at us.
