Malick Sidibé was one of my favorite portrait photographers. He was born in 1935 (or 1936) and died in 2016. He was 80 years old. A friend of mine slowed me a postcard of his work in the late 1990s and I was riveted. His influence in the world of commercial and fine art photography is undeniable. I love how stylized everyone looked in his photography, like each person was a creature from their own planet. He showed black people as amazing as we are. He showed African culture to the world. He also managed to portray each subject as unique. And we are.
